LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Barbara Marie Shaner Mahaney, 79, a former Bolivar, N.Y., and Oswego, N.Y., resident, passed away April 26, 2013, following a lengthy illness.

Born April 17, 1934, in Wellsville, N.Y., she was the daughter of Forest and Doris Batterson Shaner. She was a graduate of Bolivar Central School.

Barbara moved to Oswego as a young lady, where she met and married Lawrence Mahaney, who survives. Her passion in life was to own a pet shop located in Oswego, and with the help of her husband she realized that dream.

In 1996, Barbara and her husband retired to Las Vegas, where she lived the remainder of her years.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 51 years, Lawrence Mahaney; one son, Robert McRae; three daughters, Marie Mahaney, Darlene Vernon and Babette Carpenter; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur Shaner, Doug Shaner, Forest Shaner and Thomas Shaner.

A memorial service will be held Sunday (May 26, 2013) at 2 p.m. in the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., Bolivar. Pastor Larry Allen of the Richburg First Day Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
