BOLIVAR - Douglas L. Wightman, 79, of 2791 Burdick Road, passed away on Wednesday (Aug. 28, 2013) in the town of Andover as a result of injuries sustained in an oil field accident.

Born in Cuba, Doug was the son of Robert and Althea Rose Wightman. He was a graduate of Richburg Central School.

Doug was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War from 1954-56. He was a self-employed water well driller in the Bolivar-Richburg area from 1960-1969. From 1969-1976, he was employed by the Town of Wirt Highway Department and from 1976-1986 was employed as a sales representative for Diamond Saw Co. in Chaffee.

He was a member of Macedonia Lodge 258 F & A.M. Bolivar, Chapter 280 Royal Arch Masons in Bolivar, and American Legion Post 0001 in Albany.

Surviving are three children, LeighAnn (Daryl) Place of Orting, Wash., Larry (Tabutha) Wightman of Rock Hill, S.C., and Lori Anne Wightman of Bluffton, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Wightman and Ronald Wightman.

Friends were invited to call at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., Bolivar, Monday (Sept. 2, 2013). Graveside services were held today (Sept. 3, 2013) at 10 a.m. in the West Clarksville Cemetery. Rev. Vicky Hedlund, pastor of the Bolivar United Methodist Church, officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bolivar Pioneer Oil Museum, Box 332, Bolivar, NY 14715.
