BOLIVAR - Rev. Revere C. Perkins, beloved friend, father and grandfather, 88, of 351 Main St. and formerly of 546 South Main, passed away Sunday (June 30, 2013) in the Beth Shalom Nursing Home in Virginia Beach, Va. He was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Wellsville, N.Y., to Orville and Cora Goodridge Perkins of Hallsport, N.Y. He married the late Lyna J. Perkins on Sept. 21, 1946, in Eureka, Mont. They were married for 59 years. He was a high school graduate in Wellsville, N.Y., and attended Nyack College in New York City, Houghton College and Alfred Theological Seminary.

He served in the ministry at Fort Totten, N.D., Hettinger, N.D., rural North Dakota, Ulysses, Pa., Gold, Pa., Mills, Pa., and Bingham Center, Pa. In New York, he served in Sardinia, Bolivar, Oakfield, Elba, Warsaw, West Warsaw, Walworth, West Walworth, Findley Lake, Olean, Knapp Creek, Whitesville, Stannards and Allentown. He was a pastor for Western New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. He and Lyna were directors of the Senior Citizens Camp in Watson Homestead for many years.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Revere D. (Elizabeth) Perkins of Springville, and Donald (Angelina) Perkins of Clearwater, Fla.; three daughters, Helen Perkins of Spencerport, Esther (Paul) Carpenter of Trenton, Ontario, and Dorothy (Bruce) Thompson of Chesapeake, Va.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is survived by one living sister, Vivian (Richard) Sherwood of Hallsport, N.Y. Brothers Eugene, Orville and Merle and sister Mary Perry preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., in Bolivar, on Friday (July 5, 2013) from 7-9 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday (July 6, 2013) at 11 a.m. in the Bolivar United Methodist Church with Rev. Timothy Phelps officiating. A light luncheon will follow. Burial will be in Hallsport Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. in the Town of Willing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Bolivar United Methodist Church, Friendship St., Bolivar, NY 14715 or UMCOR via Bolivar UMC (Missions) or the family would appreciate the charity of the donor's choice.
