LITTLE GENESEE - Carrie Ida Dey 96 a former Little Genesee and Bolivar resident passed away Friday June 26, 2015 at Absolut of Allegany following a lengthy illness. Carrie was born October 7, 1918 in Oswayo Pa., she was the daughter of Harry O. and Bessie Spencer Kemp. Carrie attended Bolivar Central School, and married the love of her life Wilbur “Pete” Dey on her 18th Birthday in 1936. Mr. Dey preceded her in death on August 22, 2005.

Mother left her children a brief autobiographical sketch of her life as well as several diaries of her teen and young adult years. At the top of the first page of her life-sketch she penned,”Matt21:22-And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive”. She was our spiritual example and a mother who prayed for us. After journaling of the struggles of her three children she wrote, “What has all this taught me…? It has taught me patience, trust, to be much in prayer, for more good comes from prayer than all the scoldings.

Mother never worked outside the home. Her life’s work was her family. She spent many years caring for her mother, and many more years making sure other family members had a safe and loving place they could call “home”. Only heaven knows how many lives she touched. We sorrow at our loss, and rejoice at her home coming. Carrie was a member of the Richburg First Day Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Virgil (Marilyn) Dey York S.C. and Thomas (Linda) Dey Buffalo and one daughter Elizabeth (Mark) Mancuso Olean. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Virgil Emry Kemp who died at six years in 1921.
