Evelyn A. Jones
1923-2015
BOLIVAR - Evelyn A. Jones 92 of 7727 Forman Hollow Road passed away Tuesday September 15, 2015 in the
Robert Packer Hospital Sayre Pa. following a lengthy illness. Born June 26, 1923 in Scio N.Y. she was
the daughter of Elton and Dorathea L. Grastorf Conklin. Evelyn married Merle Jones on November 12, 1960
in Friendship. Mr. Jones preceded her in death on July 24, 1997.
She was the head bookkeeper for Frontier Water & Steam Co. Buffalo; she also was a cab driver, waitress
and bartender in Niagara Falls. After moving to Allegany Co. Evelyn was employed by Daystrom Furniture
Co, Farnsworth Cookie Co, and worked with her husband in the local oil fields. Evelyn was a member and
greeter of the United Church of Friendship and served on the Woman’s Ministries Assoc, and served as a
steward of the Church. She was a member of Kenyon Andrus Post 772 American Legion Aux. Bolivar, member
of Allegany Co. Legion Aux, Allegany Co #515 8/40 and was a former state treasurer. She was also a
member of Wellsville Rebekah Lodge 124, past noble grands, past noble grands assoc, past district
deputy, and president. She was a member of the Travel Club of Friendship, creative writer of the
Southern tier, Bolivar 4Cs Senior Citizens Club and Friendship Senior Citizens Club.
Surviving are one daughter Eva Baker Friendship, Ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren,
one brother Claude A. Conklin Olean, sister-in-law Gloria Conklin Bradford Pa. Also surviving are
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Raymond C. Hadsell 1990, twin
grandsons Dean and Dale Cotton, two sisters Melva Kettler and Virginia B. Jordan, and two brothers
Guy L. Conklin and Charles H. Conklin.
Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. Bolivar Friday 2-4 7-9P.M. Funeral services
will be held on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the United Church of Friendship with Pastor Kirk Kirch
officiating. Burial will be in Hallsport Cemetery Willing N.Y.
