Barbara D. Morris
1934-2013
BOLIVAR – Barbara D. Morris 79 of 91 First St passed away Thursday October 24, 2013 at home following a brief illness.
Born March 1, 1934 in Olean she was the daughter of Louis and Aurelia Dean Dunn. She married Clifton J. Morris on August 3, 1957
in St Mary’s Church in Bolivar. Mr. Morris preceded her in death on June 7, 2008.
Barbara was a graduate of Bolivar Central School class of 1952 and Fredonia State College 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree
in elementary education. She began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at School #1 in Olean. Later she
was employed as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in the Copaique Central School for over 20 years, retiring in 1989.
Mrs. Morris was a member of St. Mary’s Church where she served as President of the Altar & Rosary Society for many years.
She was also a member of the Little Genesee Garden Club and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society of Educators. She volunteered with
the family Literacy Program through Accord, volunteered for the head start program in Bolivar and summer reading program
at the Bolivar Free Library. Barb created the Little Red Book Shelves in Bolivar and Richburg.
Surviving are four children; James (Sharon) Morris of Douglasville, GA, Kevin (Barbara) Morris of Coral Springs, FL,
Robert (Yvonne) Morris of Bolivar, and Ellen (Paul) Lowry of Bolivar. Also surviving are two brothers;
James (Elizabeth) E. Dunn of Bolivar and Thomas J. Dunn of Bolivar, thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Annemarie Morris 1984.
Friends may call the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., Bolivar on Saturday October 26, 2013 from 5-7pm and Sunday 3-6pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday October 28, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church Bolivar at 11 am with
Rev Sean DiMaria Pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery Bolivar.
