Bolivar “Proud To Be Irish”
Deirdre N. Ahl 89 of 118 Wellsville Street passed away Wednesday November 8, 2017 in the Absolut of
Allegany Following a lengthy illness. She was born December 28, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA to Dermot
Norman and Kathleen Fitzpatrick. On October 22, 1955 she married Donald E. Ahl in Coudersport, PA.
Mr. Ahl preceded her in death February 22, 1999.
Deirdre graduated from Murraysville, PA High School, Class of 1946. She received a business degree in
Pittsburgh. She was employed by Weston’s Shoppers City as manager of the fabrics department and
Dresser Rand Company in Olean as an expeditor for 12 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a member and pillar of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister
and many other volunteer areas of church life including but not limited to the grounds and flowers,
poinsettias at Christmas, luncheons and many social events held at church. She and her husband were
also involved with the construction of the parish hall. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of
America. She was an avid knitter, sewer and enjoyed working with stained glass, gardening and bead
work. She also volunteered at the Bolivar Food Pantry. While a resident of the Absolut, she taught
knitting and bead-work classes to the staff and residents.
Surviving are 3 children: Moira Ahl, Bolivar, Sean (Sue) Ahl, Bolivar and Kathleen “Kay” Perez, Olean; 6
grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great
great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sons: D. Michael Ahl- 2010 and Timothy K Ahl
– 2017 and one brother Aiden Norman.
Friends may call the Schaffner Funeral Home, Inc. Friday November 10, 4-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church Saturday November 11 at 11 AM. Burial will be in Maple Grove
Cemetery Shinglehouse, Pa.
