Shirley A. Brown
1931-2017
Ceres - Shirley A. Brown 85 of 236 Main St. passed away Monday February 13, 2017 in the Olean General
Hospital following a brief illness. Shirley was born on March 27, 1931 in Bolivar she was the daughter of
Donald P. and Tennie Smith Curtin. Shirley married Luther G. Brown on July 2, 1950 in Portville, Mr.
Brown preceded her in death on October 31, and 2007.
She was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School class of 1949. She was a former proof reader for Olean
Times Herald, later was Post master at the Ceres Post Office for twenty-two years retiring in 1995.
Shirley loved her family and her home.
Surviving are four sons; Steven (Judy) Brown Marcellus NY, David (Pamella) Brown Murrells Inlet SC,
Alan (Dawn) Brown Virginia Beach VA and Walter (Sue) Brown Ceres. Also surviving are eight
grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Tammy
L. Brown in 1998 and three brothers; Donald D. Curtin, Stanton N. Curtin and Larry M. Curtin.
Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. Bolivar on Friday February 17, 2017 from 12noon to
1 PM. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1PM. Rev. Richard Hurd pastor of the Bolivar United
Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery Bolivar.
