Betty J. Ferris 90 of 93 Olean St. passed away Saturday March 24, 2018 at the Hart Comfort House Wellsville following a brief illness. Betty was born on December 23, 1927 in Olean, the daughter of Earl and Lillian Hanchett Koehler. On December 4, 1945 Betty married Shirley D. Ferris in Wellsville. Mr. Ferris preceded her in death in 1998.

Betty was a graduate of the Bolivar Central School class of 1945. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Ferris & Forbes Ford and Mercury dealership in Bolivar for many years. Later she was employed at the Bolivar Central School as a teacher’s aide in the kindergarten class and the cafeteria department. She also volunteered at the Treasure Chest in Bolivar. She was a member of the Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church Bolivar, Al-Anon of Allegany County and the Red Hat Society. Betty was devoted to her family and friends and loved to sit on her front porch.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Noreen C. Ferris Bolivar, three grandchildren; Matt (Heather) Ferris Bolivar, Todd (Danielle) Ferris Elizabethtown PA and Kate (Robert) Alpigini Virginia Beach VA, seven greatgrandchildren; Hadley, Kelsey, Robert and Kate Ferris, Jack, Max, and Sara Kate Alpigini, one nephew Richard (Nancy) Mills Texas and one niece Marilyn (Tom) Taylor Texas. She was preceded in death by a son Thomas Ferris in 2013, two sisters, Madeline Mills and Marion Dwyer and two nephews James and David Dwyer.

There will be no public visitation. Funeral services for family and friends will be held on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at 11 A.M. in the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. Bolivar. Rev. Carol Stewart pastor of St. John’s Episcopal Church Wellsville will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery Bolivar.
