Barbara J. Thomas 89 of 70 Boss Street passed away on Wednesday December 29, 2021 at home
following a lengthy illness. Born on March 10, 1932 in Hornell, she was the daughter of Robert and Betty
Galusha Nicholson. Barb married Robert Thomas on August 26, 1950 in Bolivar; Mr. Thomas preceded her
in death in 1999.
Barb was a graduate of the Bolivar Central School. She owned and operated the family flower shop
“Nicholson Flower Shop” in Bolivar for many years. Later she was employed by the Cuba Cheese Shop for
ten years prior to her retirement. Barb was a former member of the Bolivar Country Club.
Surviving are two children, John Thomas and Anne (Dave) Nenno both of Bolivar; seven grandchildren,
Shelley Thomas, Tacey Smith, Tina Sallazzo, Eric Nenno, Cady Dunning, Joe Chase and Kelley Chase;
eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Selinda Smith in 2002 and Barbara Chase in 2015; a
grandson Robert Thomas; one sister Anne Saunders and a loving companion Wayne “Bob” Torrey in 2021.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date
to be announced. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Bolivar.
