Donald K. Smith 82 of 205 West Pine Street passed away on Wednesday October 13, 2021 at the Olean
General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born on November 12, 1938 in Cuba he was the son of
Stearns and Irene Rork Smith. Don married the former Mary Murphy on February 1, 1974 in Obi, Mrs.
Smith survives.
Don was a graduate of the Richburg Central School class of 1956. He started his banking career at
Manufacturer Hanover Bank in Olean, later was the Manager of the North Star Bank in Cuba, and retired
from the Five Star Bank in Cuba in 2002. Don was a Social Member of the Cuba American Legion Post 655
and St. Stephens Club Olean. He was an avid outdoorsman for many years enjoying his camp, hunting in
the fall and snowmobiling in the winter with friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Matthew (Anne Sequerth) Smith Olean, Coleen (Randy)
Bump Cuba and Benjamin Smith Roswell GA; three granddaughters, Rachelle, Breanna and Alyssa; one
great-granddaughter Chloe; four sisters, twin sister Donna (Tom) Appleby Allegany, Phyllis Maxson
Friendship, Jean Feaster Emmett Idaho and Sue Klick Sebastapol CA and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Dons wishes there will be no prior services. A celebration of life will be held at a later
date. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Bolivar.
