Donna J. Cook 88 formally of 190 East Notch Rd. passed away Monday May 24, 2021 at the Cuba
Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility following a brief illness. Born on May 17, 1933 in Eldred PA, she
was the daughter of William and Anna Wheaton Peck. Donna married Lawrence Cook on June 8, 1952;
he preceded her in death 1991.
Donna received her GED at the age of seventy. She was employed by Olean Tile Company for ten years
and AVX Corporation Olean for ten years. Donna attended the Richburg First Day Baptist Church. She
was a life member of the Richburg Fire Department and Auxiliary and a past president of the Auxiliary and
a life member of the Allegany County Fireman’s Association.
Known as the Queen of Bingo she was an avid bingo player in the Allegany and Cattaraugus County area.
She was the life of the party, friend of everyone and mom to all kids. Donna spent most of her life
volunteering her time to the Fire Department and Auxiliary.
Surviving are four children, Steve (Marie) Cook Friendship, Candy Rix Buffalo, Kirby (Joan) Cook Eldred PA
and Peggy (Cheryl) Cook Little Genesee. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, thirty-six greatgrandchildren,
five great-great-grandchildren and hundreds of nieces and nephews; one sister Betty Kelly
Port Allegany PA, one brother Eldyn (Betty) Peck Clay Center Kansas and a sister-in-law Sandy (Bill) Nolder
Sheridan WY. She was preceded in death by a son Lawrence Cook Jr. in 2017, son-in-law Ronald Rix, and a
grandson and two brothers Horace and William and four sisters, Virginia, Thelma, June and Joyce.
Friends may call at the Richburg First Day Baptist Church on Sunday June 6, 2021 from 1-3 PM. A
Memorial Service will follow at 3 P.M. Pastor Larry Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn
Cemetery Bolivar.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Richburg Fire Department Auxiliary, Box 74, Richburg
N.Y. 14774.
A heartful ‘Thank You’ to the staff and caregivers at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Nursing Home who took
such good care of Donna.
