Joseph J. Bucher 86 of 108 Pleasant Street passed away on Wednesday December 15, 2021 in the Jones
Memorial Hospital, Wellsville. Joe passed away peacefully while listening to his grandson play an
improvisational piano melody from his home in Vermont. Born August 11, 1935 in Buffalo, NY, he was the
son of Joseph and Kathryn Donnelly Bucher. He married Mary E. “Betsy” Anderson in July 29, 1989; she
preceded him in death in 2019.
He was a graduate of Bolivar Central School. He was a self-employed oil producer in Bolivar, NY. He was a
member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bolivar, NY, Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach, Florida and
member of the Knights of Columbus of Vero Beach, Florida. He was President of BDH Oil and James
Producing Corporation of Bradford, PA and a member of the New York State Oil Producers Association.
Surviving are four children, Andrew (Mary) Bucher, Rochester, NY, Cathleen (Eric) Johnson, Olympia, WA,
Elizabeth (Charles) Emerson, Lyndon, VT and David (Sue) Bucher, Emporium, PA; four step-children, Jeff
Anderson, Orlando, Florida, Susan (David) Bess, Arlington, Texas, David (Sue) Anderson, Scio, NY and Scott
Anderson, Olean ,NY; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and special friends, Rick (Kris)
Gould and Kelly (Lois) Lounsberry, Bolivar, NY.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary’s Church
Bolivar at a later date. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
