Re Rogers Baker 89 of 5569 Reed Rd. passed away on Monday March 1, 2021 at home following a lengthy
illness. Born October 16, 1931 in Buffalo he was the son of Paul C. and Hanah Perkins Baker. He married
Wilma Reed McCarthy on October 12, 1973 in Richburg, Mrs. Baker survives.
Rogers was a graduate of Friendship Central School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Alfred University
and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Cornell University.
Rogers was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1954-1956. Rogers belonged to the Inavale Grange
and the Dairymen’s League in Friendship. In 1974, moved to Hamden, NY where he was an instructor of
Agricultural Sciences and welding at SUNY Delhi for seven years, and later owned and operated an engine
repair shop in in his home while living in Hamden, NY. He was also a substitute teacher in various school
districts of the area. Rogers was a former paid organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Delhi, NY for
twenty-nine years and substituted for many local churches.
Moving back to Friendship in 2011 Rogers continued to play piano and organ for many churches in the
area. Rogers was a founding member of Followers of the Way Church in Nile, 2017 and their musical
accompanist. Surviving in addition to his wife are seven children; Deborah Fenner Norwich CT., Deanna
(Lorraine Brown) Baker Berlin CT., Barbara (Anna Gramberg) Baker Gulfport, FL, Elizabeth (Fred Ciaburro)
Baker Boynton Beach, FL, Anne Merritt Spring Hill, FL, Julie (John) Brunner Fairport, NY and Pauline (Rolf
Orsagh) Baker Hilton, NY. Also surviving are one stepson William McCarthy Cuba, NY and ten
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services and military honors are scheduled for Friday June 25, 2021 at 2 P.M. in the Followers of
the Way Church Nile, NY. Pastor Kevin Palmiter will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery
Friendship.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Followers of the Way Church, 4094 Rt. 275,
Friendship, NY 14739.
