Ronald Stabley: Loving Husband, Father, and Friend

Ronald Stabley, 80, of 2251 Red Oak Lane, State College, and a former Bolivar resident passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, after an illness. Ron was born on July 1, 1940, in Williamsport, PA to Leslie and Minnie Olson Stabley. In 1976 he married the former Linda Fowler in Bolivar who survives.

He was a graduate of Williamsport High School and Mansfield University. He had been employed as a biology and chemistry teacher at Bolivar Central School for 32 years. For a short period of time he owned a sub shop in Olean, New York and for a short time in Alfred, New York with partners. After retiring from teaching he moved to State College, PA where he worked at Shaner Hotels where he inspected hotels for about ten years before settling down in retirement and followed the PSU wrestling team.

Ron enjoyed carving wooden decoys and took first place with a carving of a Canadian goose in a Wellsville Art School Contest. He was on the second-place team in the One Fly Man Fly Fishing Tournament. He also took first place in the Pine Creek Canoe Race and sang with a barbershop quartet for a period of time. For many summers he painted houses with a group of teachers. He also was active in coaching track, wrestling, and cross country at Bolivar Central School.

Ron loved his beloved wife Linda until his passing and said “God Bless” to all of those that touched his life. He loved the small town of Bolivar where he lived and worked for over 30 years. He was a social member of the Bolivar American Legion Post 772 where he cooked Sunday Breakfast for a while.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Barbara Canfield and a stepson Ricky Wareham.

A graveside services will be held in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are under direction of the Schaffner Funeral Home, Inc., Bolivar.
